Sydney Opera House · Welcome Centre, then the harbour

The tour, then lunch on the harbour

The same one-hour guided walk through the foyers and the free halls, followed by a main course and a drink at a harbourside restaurant on Bennelong Point. Pick it if you were going to eat by the water anyway: the meal turns a one-hour visit into a slow afternoon under the sails.

Opera House Tour with a Meal and Drink

About this experience

This is the House's own tour with a meal voucher bolted on. You do the standard one-hour guided tour with a headset, collect your voucher at the Welcome Centre after check-in, then sit down for one main and one drink (wine, beer or a soft drink) at one of the restaurants on the promenade. The House sells the same idea on its own site as Tour & Dine.

The listing names two venues to pick from. Midden by Mark Olive is the Indigenous Australian restaurant on the promenade, run by the chef Mark Olive, with native ingredients on the menu; a guest wrote that the fish was excellent. Opera Bar is the classic harbourside bar with the bridge in view. In 2026 its inside dining is closed for renovation while the outdoor tables stay open, and a relaunch is planned for the summer. The listing still mentions House Canteen, which has since been replaced by Winnie's.

Watch the serving hours, because they decide when to book. Opera Bar serves the meal from 11:30am to 6pm. Midden serves it at lunch, 11:30am to 2:30pm, or for an early dinner from 5pm to 6pm. A 9am tour leaves you waiting; a late-morning one puts you at the table for lunch. The tour itself is the same climb as always: around 300 stairs and up to 2.5 km on foot, with no lift.

Tips before you book

  • Book a tour that ends around noon. You walk straight into the lunch service at either venue.
  • Pick Midden for the food, Opera Bar for the view of the bridge.
  • Sit outside if you can. With Opera Bar's inside space closed for renovation, the harbourside tables are the point anyway.
  • Bring a hat and sunscreen in summer. Both venues are open to the sun and the wind off the water.
  • Check the current list on the House's Eat & Drink page before you go: the venues have changed twice in two years.

Frequently asked questions

Which restaurants does the Opera House tour with meal include?

The listing offers Midden by Mark Olive and Opera Bar. It also still names House Canteen, which has been replaced by Winnie's, so expect the first two.

What time is the meal served?

Opera Bar serves it from 11:30am to 6pm. Midden serves it for lunch from 11:30am to 2:30pm, or for dinner from 5pm to 6pm.

Is the meal included worth the extra cost?

The meal package costs about $29 more than the tour on its own. For one main and one drink at a harbourside restaurant on Bennelong Point, that is fair value.

Is Opera Bar open in 2026?

Yes, for outdoor harbourside dining. Its inside dining is closed for renovation in 2026, with a relaunch planned for the summer.
